In 2009, first batch of seventeen Blocks covering an area of
42,020.6 km2 in South China Sea are available for cooperation
between CNOOC and foreign companies. Apart from that,
CNOOC announced to invest more than 200billions RMB to
explore South China Sea in next 10 years.
China Petrochemical Corp., the Chinese state oil company also known as Sinopec Group, has successfully acquired oil explorer Addax Petroleum for 8.27 billion Canadian dollars. This is the largest overseas takeover ever by a Chinese company, which will optimize offshore oil&gas assets structure of Sinopec and speed up its globalization process.
China offshore engineering technology achieved great breakthrough. The
first circular drilling rig prepared for drilling at a water depth of almost 4,200 meters was named at COSCO Shipyard Group's Qidong Shipyard on June 28.
